Each of us has a latent potential dwelling within us – an innate ability to meet and embrace the profound challenges of life from a place of deep openness and trust, with a soaring heart and mind, and with an inspired creativity that completely transcends our own expectations and perceived limits.

Many of us have had a direct taste of this potential. We glimpse it when we are – usually for fleeting moments – the very best self we can be. In these moments, we enter a supercharged flow state. We feel connected to life and the cosmos in a way that is utterly liberating. We experience a dissolution of all boundaries and limits, an unconfined creativity, and a deep sense that a different way of living and engaging with life is truly possible.

What we are actually feeling in these moments, deep within our being, is nothing less than the primordial creative impulse that gave rise to the universe itself – the very same mysterious impulse that has animated the universe since it burst into existence 14 billion years ago.

Andrew Cohen calls this the Evolutionary Impulse, and when we discover it for ourselves as a living reality, we begin to sense the infinite cosmos pulsating and vibrating within us. We experience a radical aliveness and a lightness of being that is completely intoxicating.

What emerges from this experience is a new and higher self-sense that offers us a completely different lens through which we can view reality. As our focus begins to shift, we realise that human incarnation is not in any way separate from the energy and intelligence that is creating the universe. We recognize that our bodies, minds and personalities are actually complex vehicles through which this vast cosmic intelligence is becoming ever more conscious.

Yet at the same time we never lose sight of the extraordinary privilege of being an individuated self. Instead, we awaken to a higher and more authentic frequency of this self. We become a profoundly beautiful and unselfconscious expression of the unique soul that we already are.

When this Authentic Self is awakened within us, we no longer hold ourselves apart in any way from life and the entirety of the cosmos. We become compelled to participate deeply, both in our own awakening, and the unfolding process of life itself. Out of a deep care for the whole of life, we are called to co-create the future, in partnership with the primordial impulse that gives rise to it.
